As I mentioned here , Canada needed a test from Switzerland and they definitely got one. What it showed was that Canada still needs some definite improvement. Contrary to what a lot of analysts are saying, I don’t think Canada needs to work on preparation and how they start a game. What they do need are two things: Better transition defensively from zone to zone and a killer instinct on the power play.
If they can do a better job of slowing down the attacking players through the neutral zone it will allow Canada’s strength and determination to take over in down low battles. They give up too much on the rush right now for that to matter. Also, scoring chances are fine, but they could have won both games they lost simply by staying close 5 on 5 and then taking advantage of critically timed power plays.
Overall Canada is highly skilled with a good work ethic. They just need het a little more detail oriented.
