Milan Lucic will be the latest to have a hearing at the hands of the NHL’s Department Of Player Safety. I don’t envy anyone on that hot seat because there’s really no boundaries for what to expect.

Speaking their language, this should be an easy one. The victim was an unsuspecting, defenseless player who was not eligible to be hit. It was predatory. It was not a hockey play. It was directly to the head. It ticks all the boxes.

Lucic did get slashed to be fair. He has every right to seek a guy out and explain to him, maybe even a little physically, that it’s not right. But that doesn’t justify a sucker punch like this.

This should be 4 games minimum. I’m thinking though that because it’s “just a punch” and not a clean hit at speed that just happens to graze the head, it’ll probably be a fine.
