A Thursday night at Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex will have a much different feel during the 2016-2017 hockey season.
The Brookfield Junior Elks will be playing their NSJHL home games on Thursday evenings this year.
“The change had been talked about a lot, particularly within the last 5 years,” said Elks President Josh Boulton. “Everyone in the organization is expecting lots of positives from the move.”
The main motivation is to increase community involvement.
“The Elks aren’t just a hockey team that plays out of Brookfield,” continued Boulton.
“The very foundation of the team is the Village of Brookfield. The building we play out of is more a community centre than it is a hockey rink, so we’d like to be more accessible to all demographics including younger families, minor hockey players, and students.”
The Brookfield Elks play their first home game on Thursday, October 6th when they play host to the East Hants Penguins. Game time remains 7:30pm.
